With its natural tones, geometric shape and woven rattan detailing, this handmade jewellery box captures the relaxed tropical style popular throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

Crafted from bamboo and woven rattan, the box features a distinctive hexagonal form, decorative framed panels and a hand-burned floral motif on the lid. The interior is lined in vibrant red felt, creating a striking contrast while providing a soft place to store treasured jewellery, keepsakes and small mementos.

Pieces of this style were commonly produced throughout Southeast Asia, particularly in the Philippines and Indonesia, where skilled artisans worked with locally sourced bamboo and rattan to create decorative household items. Based on its materials, construction and design, this example is estimated to date from the late 1970s to early 1990s.
