This earthenware cheese platter is a rare find made and signed by Australian potter, Bryce Chesney. Born in 1930 in Tully, Queensland, Bryce displayed an artistic side from an early age, winning an orchid-growing prize during his primary school years. Around 1980, he and his wife Valerie settled in Sydney, where he taught himself the craft of pottery. Over the next fifteen years, pottery became his creative outlet until his retirement in the mid-1990s.
This vintage platter showcases Bryce’s playful side, with a cheeky little mouse perched on the edge and a rich, glossy glaze that enhances the earthenware’s natural warmth. Both functional and decorative, it’s a delightful serving piece for cheese, nibbles, or sweets, while also standing proudly as a collectible slice of Australian pottery history.
A signed, handmade original, this platter is the perfect gift for collectors, entertainers, or anyone who appreciates unique Australian ceramics with a story to tell.
