Vintage Hand-Thrown Stoneware Studio Pottery Mug Vase
This vintage stoneware mug-style vase has that quiet, lived-in charm that instantly makes a space feel more considered. Hand-thrown in a speckled, earthy clay, it features a soft neutral glaze finished with a hand-painted blue leaf motif.
The shape sits somewhere between a tankard and a small jug, making it just as suited to a few fresh stems on the bench as it is styled on its own.
Turn it over and you’ll find an impressed maker’s mark, partially softened by the firing process. It appears to be a simple monogram or studio stamp, and while it isn’t identifiable to a specific maker, it’s typical of small-batch studio pottery where individual potters used their own hand-carved marks.
Based on its form, glaze and decoration, this piece likely dates to the late 1970s through to the early 1990s, with strong ties to either Australian or British studio pottery from that era.
There’s a warmth and honesty to this stoneware beauty that you rarely find with newer pieces.
